{"id":281,"date":"2018-02-16T16:29:09","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T14:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euricca.eu\/?p=281"},"modified":"2018-02-18T13:57:05","modified_gmt":"2018-02-18T11:57:05","slug":"elma-and-european-music-sector-representatives-address-president-juncker-to-support-music-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euricca.eu\/?p=281","title":{"rendered":"ELMA and European Music sector Representatives address President Juncker to support Music Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 14th February 2018 and\u00a0after two years of collaboration with<strong>\u00a0the European C<\/strong><strong>ommission<\/strong>,\u00a0\u00a0<strong>EU Culture Commissioner Tibor Navracsics<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0announced that Parliament had approved preparatory measures for the pilot Music\u00a0Programme project called \u201c<strong>Music Moves Europe<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/programmes\/creative-europe\/actions\/music-moves-europe_es\">Music Moves Europe<\/a>\u00a0<strong>which\u00a0<\/strong><strong>was<\/strong>\u00a0supported by\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>30<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>European associations<\/strong><strong>\u00a0and Organizations that attended the meeting<\/strong>, will be allocated a budget of\u00a0<strong>1.5 million Euro\u00a0<\/strong>to begin the\u00a0<strong>preparatory phases for a specific law on music<\/strong>, similarly to the process undertaken for the audio-visual law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1028 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.elmnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/european-music-representatives-signatories-appeal-to-president-juncker-300x253.jpg\" alt=\"European Music Representatives signatories appeal to President Juncker\" width=\"300\" height=\"253\" \/><\/strong>Our partner <a title=\"ELMA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elmnet.org\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ELMA<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>29 other organisations<\/strong>\u00a0representing the European music sector welcomed this pilot programme for music in Europe and addressed\u00a0<strong>Jean-Claude Juncker<\/strong>, President of the European Commission,\u00a0to support a full European Music Programme in EU future budget.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/assomusica.org\/it\/nimpe\/item\/download\/769_80acd30b89b6e5aee2518fb53cb3e1f9.html\">Read the European Music Sector Representatives letter here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">The support\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>Music Moves Europe<\/strong>\u00a0project by the\u00a0<strong>European Parliament<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Directorate General for Education and Culture<\/strong>\u00a0paves the way to create a\u00a0legitimate\u00a0music program\u00a0that will contribute triggering larger investments in the sector, increase the diversity and mobility of the artists and the repertoire across national and European borders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"alignnone\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1019 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.elmnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/whatsapp-image-2018-02-14-at-15.25.22-169x300.jpeg\" alt=\"WhatsApp Image 2018-02-14 at 15.25.22\" width=\"124\" height=\"220\" \/><strong>Tibor Navracsics, Head of the Culture Commission<\/strong>, presented\u00a0Music Moves Europe guidelines in 5 points and outlined the scenario for the prompt approval of a law on music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"alignnone\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">The music sector in Europe is very dynamic, with a significant contribution to employment and growth:\u00a0<strong>it accounts for 1 million jobs and over 25 billion Euro in turnover<\/strong>. The sector is in good health and eager to expand, but it must overcome certain important challenges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU wants to create a financial framework for the music sector in Europe in the coming years, and the newly launched &#8220;Preparatory Action&#8221; by Music Moves Europe is intended to put ideas and projects to the test and to work out the general conditions of the future funding program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">The conference gave\u00a0<strong>ELMA Association President, Vincenzo Spera<\/strong>\u00a0(Assomusica Associazione)\u00a0<strong>and ELMA Vice-President, Prof. Jens Michow<\/strong>\u00a0(Federal German Association of Entertainment and Music Event Industry &#8211; BDV) an opportunity to present\u00a0<strong>#ELMAinitiative<\/strong>\u00a0for the first time officially at the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">Besides, all players in the industry will now need to work hard to ensure that the framework conditions of the program are efficient and that the resources available are commensurate with the importance of the industry, and not too far behind the budgets of other programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">As Vincenzo Spera commented, \u201cThe European Union\u00a0is focusing on music and culture and this is where we must step in, along with the major European music associations, with whom we have worked for two years&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.elmnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/img_8412-e1518876146477-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Prof. Jens Michow with Barbara Gessler Head-of-Creative-Europe-EU-Commission\" width=\"151\" height=\"201\" \/>\u00a0The preparatory action has set the basis of a programme that will overcome the gap in the current cultural policy of the European Union and &#8220;Music Moves Europe is a first step towards creating a promotional program tailored to the needs of the music industry,&#8221; commented Prof. Michow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">The launch of the support program is expected &#8211; according to parliamentary decisions &#8211; only after the current program expires in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"alignnone\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1020\" src=\"http:\/\/www.elmnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/whatsapp-image-2018-02-14-at-17.35.36-1-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"Music Moves Europe Objectives\" width=\"224\" height=\"168\" \/>The main objectives of the program are the professionalization of artists, the promotion of entrepreneurial investment and innovative startups in the music industry, the collection of data and metadata of the industry as well as the increase of export activities in the field of music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\">In addition, the project aims to help master the challenges facing the music industry as a result of technological change or digitization.
